Realising Your Dreams

by Adam Axon on June 9, 2010

Just under four years ago I was stepping off a plane in Frankfurt, Germany. By taking that first step onto German soil I was realising a childhood dreams, attending a World Cup! In a society where it’s so easy to get caught up in the daily grind and lose touch with your dreams, I feel very blessed to have had the opportunity to realise mine.

So what’s it like to realise a dream? Initially I don’t think it really sinks in, but then you’ll have this moment, a moment where it suddenly dawns on you.

‘OMG I’m actually at the World Cup’

And you’ll smile, a truly contented smile for having achieved something that you set out to achieve. It may not sound like much, but in my experience that feeling of true contentment is rare and can be worth it’s weight in gold.

My stand out memory of the World Cup was the feeling of togetherness that spread throughout Germany. Cities were filled with people from different religions, nationalities and beliefs, but for that one month none of those differences mattered. We were united, united by a passion for Football. It was my first insight into the real power of Football and it’s a feeling I’ll never forget.

When pursuing your dreams, you’ll no doubt be presented with reasons to turn away from your path. They might even seem quite compelling. That’s fear, and it’s doing it’s utmost to ‘protect’ you. To realise your dreams, you’ve got to push past that fear and believe you can achieve. Consider the apprehension an indication that you’re on the right path, after all you can’t achieve anything without taking a risk along the way!

Travelling to the World Cup was hands down the best thing I’ve ever done and I wouldn’t change it for anything. Common sense might suggest you invest in bricks and mortor or the stock market. Well I propose a different investment, invest in yourself, invest in following your dreams. Unlike the markets, it’s an investment that always guarantees a return.

Both World Wars, the Holocaust, the Cold War and the subsequent fall of the Soviet Union. Berlin has an extensive story to [...]

Mein Oktoberfest

October 9, 2009

Whilst it may come as a surprise to those that know me given a few of my more wilder nights, I’m not actually a big drinker. As a result I was curious as to how I would find Munich in Oktoberfest given that the main activity is beer drinking! Thankfully a combination of quality beer [...]
