Sit down and contemplate world hunger for a moment. The shear scale of the problem is enough to make even the most optimistic person despondent isn’t it? Now think about cooking an extra meal alongside your own to help feed people at the local homeless shelter. A much more achievable aim you’d agree.
Now what if you take that more achievable aim and replicate it across the majority of Western society? All of a sudden the initial problem of world hunger that seemed so impossible to solve becomes a bit more manageable doesn’t it?
That my friends is what I call the paradox of change. Faced with an overwhelming global problem, we as individuals believe we are helpless and yet without our individual contribution the problem is indeed insurmountable.
Democratic ideals speak of the people having a voice, yet what happens when we don’t use that voice? If you want the answer to that question just look around you…….
So what can we do about it? Stop being a passenger! Start taking an active role in the affairs of the world and encourage others to do the same. Collectively our individual efforts can tip the balance. Change is within our grasp, if we really want it!

The time of just being a passenger has come and gone. We must start using our collective voice to ask Governments the questions that our democratic ideals depend on us to ask.
Remember you can make a difference, you can bring about change, all that’s needed is action, your action.

Adam, you raise valid and rational points and I agree that action must take place more often. But at the same time people don’t take new action because something is rational – there needs to be an emotional element to get things moving, which is where the difficulty lies. Evoking an emotional response to illicit action takes relatively vast amounts of energy.
