Well after a gap of three years I’m finally back in London. Suffice to say, it’s great to be back! Few other cities in the world can match it’s energy and diversity.
We are staying in Camden Town, which is well known for it’s alternative culture. It’s a very colourful and vibrant part of London and I’m pleased with the area. Their is a lot of things to do, that’s for sure! The other bonus is my mate Craig lives a few stops way on the Overground in Islington. This has allowed for a few good nights already, with the promise of much more to come!
We haven’t done too much sightseeing as yet, probably focus more on that next week. Although we have checked out Buckingham Palace, Downing Street, Parliament and Tower Bridge. No tours or anything like that, I’ve just taken the opportunity to show Cam where they are as he hasn’t been to London before. As I said, more in depth next week!
The main highlight for me so far has been the Tube. I loved it last time and after having to endure three years of V/Line services back in Geelong I think I actually love it even more this time! It just works, it gets you from A to B with minimal fuss and a bucket load of character to boot! The Oyster Card is brilliant and a lesson to the Victorian Government on how to actually install a smart card ticketing system, Myki it is not! It’s a pretty safe bet to say that working for Transport for London would be almost the ideal job for me!
Whilst it’s only my third day in London my desire to actually settle down and start looking for work is strong. I’ve got a few months of travelling ahead, but I think it’s a fair bet to say that come late November, London will become my home.
For now I’m off to do Laundry, the glamour side of travel
Tonight heading off to a stage show, ‘We Will Rock You’, the Queen musical. Should be very good! TaTa for now!
